Information for Students Interested in Honor Credit

It's that time of year to talk through our Honors Credit!

Honors Credit Information

Below is the Honors Credit option.  By fulfilling the requirements, students can receive a possible 4.5 credit instead of 4.0 for an "A".  With everything that our students do outside of band, this is something that most of our students should sign up for.  Information for private lessons is also provided below.

ANY STUDENT INTERESTED SHOULD ATTEND AN INFORMATION MEETING HELD AT 7:35AM ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4 IN THE BAND ROOM OR AT 2:50PM ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4.

Any student can receive 4.5 credit, regardless of age or ability

Main Points for Tier 1, all are mandatory:
Students need to take 9 private lessons a semester.  (This is adjusted to 18 lessons over the year for anyone starting lesson after marching band season.)
Students need to perform a solo at OMEA Solo and Ensemble
Attend One Professional Concert EACH Semester  (This is adjusted to 2 concerts over the year for anyone who can't attend a concert before the end of the semester.)

Main Points for Tier 2, three of the following are mandatory:
Perform in Honors Band(s) (may count multiple times)
Perform in an Ensemble for OMEA Solo and Ensemble (Feb)
Faculty Guided Research Paper (must be approved)
Perform in Jazz Band
Perform in Percussion Ensemble
Faculty Jury Performance
Enrolled in Music Theory and Grade B or Higher

By registering for Honors Credit, students and parents should understand that this is a year long course and that failing to complete the assignments under the Tier I or Tier II category may result in a grade deduction.

*Students in multiple school ensembles such as percussion ensemble, jazz band, choir/band or orchestra/band may use these ensembles for a "Tier 2" requirement.

See Honor Credit Info document (below) for specific information.

Please let Mr. Bradstreet know if you have questions regarding Honors Credit in Band or Jazz Band.

Applications are due by Friday, December 7.  Do not send in electronically.
